Local Community Consultant & Advocate
Expert consultation across the Borroloola Indigenous community and among Indigenous teaching personnel in the local school, community engagement, interviews, data collection and consolidation, reporting and negotiations with Northern Territory Government on behalf of community members, drafting and facilitating agreement on Memorandum of Understanding. Role extended to a high level advocacy role in representing community and cultural specific educational needs.
Amanda was an Indigenous community appointed consultant on a longditutinal Northern Territory Government project designed to reform education in remote Indigenous communities. Tasked with establishing the terms of reference, undertaking extensive community consultation and in-house evaluations in the local school around effectiveness of programs and Indigenous staff and student experience, the role called for a high level of cultural competency and sensitivity around remote community needs. As a community appointed consultant the role extended into community based advocacy as the lead negotiator in determining the outcomes for a Memorandum of Understanding with the Northern Territory Government and Borroloola Indigenous Community, for education reform efforts.
